P Brevis Tendon

The variant peroneus brevis tendon does not extend past the calcaneus and does not extend to its normal insertion on the fifth metatarsal base. The characteristic image finding for this variant is a peroneus brevis tendon which inserts on the lateral calcaneus on or near the peroneal tubercle.

Peroneal tendon pathology is often found in patients complaining of lateral ankle pain and instability.

P brevis tendon. It becomes a tendon that goes posteriorly. The peroneus brevis tendon then acts as a check to inversion stresses and provides reinforcement to the anatomical repair without limiting long-term inversioneversion motion or strength. In human anatomy the peroneus longus also known as fibularis longus is a superficial muscle in the lateral compartment of the leg and acts to evert and plantarflex the ankle.

The synovitis was excised and the wound was closed in layers. De Quervain tenosynovitis is named after the Swiss surgeon Fritz de Quervain who first described it in 1895. The imaging criteria and examination methods are the same with one exception.

Peroneus brevis tendon proximal to the fi bular groove. The peroneal tendons are two strong tendons that connect the muscles on the outside of the leg to the bones in the foot. With this condition thickening of the tendon sheaths around the abductor pollicis longus and extensor pollicis brevis develops where the tendons pass in.

In disease processes often the peroneus brevis tendon becomes flattened and the peroneus longus erodes the centre of the tendon eventually leading to splits in the tendon. The peroneus brevis anatomy consists of the peroneus brevis muscle the peroneus brevis tendon and the peroneus brevis insertion into the base and styloid process of the fifth metatarsal. It is possible to have peroneus brevis muscle pain peroneus brevis tendon pain or peroneus brevis insertional pain into the fifth metatarsal.

These tendons are held beneath the lateral malleolus by a retinaculum that may tear leading to transient or sometime. In our study we evaluated 31 patients with Achilles tendon rupture treated by reconstruction using peroneus brevis tendon transfer by dynamic loop suture technique. 2-4 weeks with CAM boot.

The peroneus longus tendon lies behind and below the peroneus brevis tendon. Peroneal tendonitis is an inflammation of the peroneal tendons and surrounding tissues which is characterized by the pain on the outside of the ankle andor along the course of the peroneal tendons. They play an important role in stabilizing the foot on uneven surfaces.

Conditions encountered include tendinosis. Appointments MD appointment at 7-10 days post-op Begin physical therapy 5-7 days post-op Rehabilitation Goals Edema and Pain Control Early ROM Protect repair Precautions NWB x 2 weeks with Splint. The postoperative course was the same as was described in Case 1.

And painful os peroneum syndrome. When they contract they move the foot down and out. The muscle the longest and most superficial of the three peroneus muscles is attached proximally to the head of the fibula and its belly runs down most of this bone.

They run behind the bone in the ankle called the fibula. With a slip of the peroneus brevis tendon through a drill hole in the fibula it is referred to as a modified Brostrom-Evans technique. The peroneus longus tendon angles forward under the sole of the foot and connects to the bottom of the main bone of the big toe.

Noted ruptured peroneus longus tendon in the midfoot arch which had adhesed or re-scarred back in attenuated and elongated position thus making it nonfunctional detail from the op report Peroneus brevis tear was identified debrided and repaired. It is a condition which involves tendon entrapment affecting the first dorsal compartment of the wrist. We used peroneus brevis tendon in our patients to augment the repair of degenerated tendoachilles tears by creating a dynamic loop.

The peroneus brevis PB tendon is injured most frequently due to its vulnerable position between the peroneus longus PL tendon and the fibula. Tears of the peroneus brevis peroneus longus and both tendons. Arthrex suture was utilized to anastamose the longus to the brevis utilizing a Krakow-type interlocking stitch.

Plantar flexion and inversion are the most common mechanisms of injury although there are other anatomical and etiological factors that can lead to peroneal tendinopathy. However every tendon is under a constant repetitive stress. It is an acute injury which is caused by the overuse.
